TERMITE AND PEST CONTROL BRISBANE

Pest control for brown banded cockroaches

The brown-banded cockroach is one of the smallest breeds of cockroaches you will find in and around Brisbane. Measuring in at a little over 10mm long, these invasive roaches tend to have a lighter brown or tan colour to their body along with wings that stretch across their body.

They aren’t too fussy about what they eat and we often come across them when conducting pest inspections and pest control treatments for clients in and around the northside of Brisbane.

Given they’re known to carry harmful bacterias that can cause gastro and diarrhoea along with triggering allergies and asthma attacks if the infection is large enough, it’s a good idea to call a professional pest control company if you find these creepy crawlies around your home.

What are brown banded cockroaches?

Brown-banded cockroaches are an invasive species of cockroaches that are native to Africa and widely distributed all over the world. They can be found in the United States, South America and it’s suggested it was introduced in Europe by American soldiers in WWII.

Brown-banded cockroaches tend to prefer areas where there are non-food-containing environments (hence their nickname furniture cockroaches) and can often be found in bedrooms and bathrooms.

Brown banded cockroaches are anywhere between 7-10 millimetres long and are a light brown colour. They often have dark bands running across their backs and are much smaller than other cockroaches you might be used to seeing around your home.

Diet and habitat

Brown banded cockroaches – like all the other types of cockroaches you will find in your home will eat mostly anything. They like to consume starchy foods and other foodstuffs like meat, sugars and fatty foods.

Brown banded cockroaches live in most countries around the world, including Australia. They particularly thrive in areas where the temperature is between 25°C-33°C, so Brisbane seems to be the perfect temperature for these pests.

Pest control options for brown banded cockroaches

Because brown banded cockroaches prefer warm places, it’s important to check small crevices, electronic equipment and particularly around and in furniture. If you notice bugs that look a little like cockroaches but are quite small, there’s a good chance these are brown banded cockroaches so it’s a good idea to call in the professionals.
